Hiking, Biking, Horseback Riding: Santa Cruz River Park Trail

The Santa Cruz River Park Trail follows the Santa Cruz River throughout Tucson, providing access to various amenities and neighborhoods, as well as the Rillito River Park Trail, Canada del Oro River Park Trail, Harrison Greenway and Julian Wash Greenway. It offers more than 40 miles of pathway along both sides of the river, which is a dry wash during most of the year.

Much of the paved trail is paralleled by a soft-surface path preferred by equestrians and joggers. The trail is also part of the expansive trail network known as The Chuck Huckelberry Loop, spanning more than 136 miles throughout Tucson and Pima County.

Length: 41.8 miles (the whole loop from Marana to Valencia Drive in southern Tucson.)

Trail end points:. Sanders Rd. (Marana) and W. Valencia Rd. (Tucson)

Trail surfaces: Asphalt, but much of the trail has a side path suitable for equestrians and runners.

Head out on this 20.3-mile out-and-back trail near Cortaro, Arizona. Generally considered an easy route, it takes an average of 6 h 3 min to complete. This is a popular trail for road biking, running, and walking, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime.

As with any outdoor activity in Southern Arizona, wear serviceable footwear, and always carry plenty of water. Dehydration is a serious thing in this part of the world.

You can access the Santa Cruz River Park Trail wherever it crosses a road. Parking is available at the following locations: the ballfields off El Camino del Cerro west of the river, Christopher Columbus Park off Silverbell Road, off Riverview Boulevard just north of where it meets Apache Drive at the end of Ontario Street at Riverside Road and a trailhead shared with the Julian Wash Greenway on Santa Cruz Lane (south of Silverlake Road).

The northernmost (closest to Marana) entry path is convenient to the Downtown Marana, Rancho Marana, Berry Acres, Silverbell West and Gladden Farms neighborhoods.
