Fruits and Veggies Outside the Box: Steam Pump Farmers Market

Looking for some ultra fresh fruits and vegetables? Maybe something new to try with the family? Check out the Steam Pump Farmers Market for all your fresh fruit and veggie, plus local beef, chicken and pork products.

The Steam Pump Farmers Market is one of five farmers markets put on by Heirloom Farmers Markets from Green Valley to Oro Valley. While they are open year round, their hours change by season, so check their website for current hours. Check out their current hours on their website at https://www.heirloomfm.org/markets/oro-valley/.

The Oro Valley Farmers Market sets up every Saturday morning at Steam Pump Ranch, nestled at the base of the Catalina Mountains’ Pusch Ridge along the Northwest Oracle Road corridor. Since 2004, the Oro Valley Farmers Market supports local farms, ranches, and small food purveyors. Friends, families and neighbors stroll the grounds of Steam Pump Ranch, where historic preservation of the buildings, farming artifacts and heritage gardens are showcased. The Oro Valley Farmers Market operates year-round, offering seasonal bounty from the surrounding farming communities. Visitors will find local fruits and vegetables, as well as beef, pork and farm fresh eggs – carrying on the the Steam Pump Ranch’s agricultural traditions.

Your first visit to the farmers market can be a little intimidating. As a new shopper, you might find yourself lost amidst a vibrant maze of stalls filled with a dizzying variety of fresh produce, including some you’ve never seen before. You may leave the farmers market the first time with a few tomatoes and a glazed expression!

On the other hand, you may arrive home with bundles of fresh produce and not have a clue what to do with them. It’s not uncommon for bags of produce to go uneaten, which can leave the novice market shopper feeling discouraged. On your next trip to the farmers market, we encourage you to exercise the habits you keep while grocery shopping: make a food plan and write a list! Of course, the market is a unique venue to unleash your creativity, so plan to incorporate new and exciting foods into your weekly menus. Find out what produce is in season. Stroll the market to see what’s available- there are so many delicious foods that aren’t always obvious!

The Steam Pump Farmers Market is located at Steam Pump Ranch, 10901 North Oracle Road, Oro Valley, AZ 85737, which is situated reasonably close to Rooney Ranch, The Boulders at La Reserve Condominiums and Canada del Oro Estates. The market is located north of the Home Depot Retail Center. Turn into the Steam Pump Ranch’s entrance and follow the dirt road to the northwest side of the property to the Farmers Market. The market is accessible and has restrooms on site.
