Pool, Horseshoes and Goats: The Water Hole

If you are looking for a place to grab a drink, hang out with friends (or the kids), play with goats or let your dog run a bit, you need to check out The Water Hole on Avra Valley Road.

After being closed for three years due to the Covid epidemic, The Water Hole re-opened on September 3, 2023. Open from 10 AM to 2 AM seven days a week, it is a cash only bar, with options on drinks, and entertainment. Offering an indoor smoking area, as well as a smoking permitted outdoor patio, both with fans to help keep the place comfortable.

Seating is spacious, with 16 bar stools, high top and low top tables, seating in the indoor smoking area, and the patio offers a couple of high top cable reel tables and a number of picnic tables.

The Water Hole carries four beers on tap (3 light beers: Millers, Coors and Bud Light and regular Budweiser), and a wide variety of canned beers and one type of wine. There is also a full bar for those who don’t drink beer.

The kitchen won’t re-open until some time in December 2023 or January 2024, but you are welcome to bring in outside food until then, when they will once again feature Jackson (the owner’s) famous pizzas.

To keep you entertained, The Water Hole has 3 pool tables, two electronic dart boards, a fussball table and a jukebox. Outside you’ll find two goats (Hillary and Monica Lewinsky), and quite a few horseshoe pits. The Water Hole isn’t a sports bar, but they do have two TVs that are usually on sports. Once warm weather returns they will be putting up the volleyball net as well.

Happy Hour is daily from 4 PM to 6 PM, with $.50 off on cans and well drinks. They also feature a Ladies’ Day on Wednesday from 1 PM to 4 PM with $2.75 beers and $3.00 well drnks. Sunday morning features a Bloody Mary special from 10 AM to 1 PM for $2.00. Friday evening offers Karaoke and occasional open mic comedy. The Water Hole also features recurring Pool, Darts and Horseshoe tournaments.

The bar occasionally will set up free potluck dinners on the patio, which can also be rented for private functions. As mentioned above, this place is very dog and kid friendly as long as the parents are present. The kids can even go out in the back yard and play with the very amenable goats.

Owned and operated by Jackson and his son, Sam, The Water Hole is a very friendly and tame bar. While visitors can certainly get loud on occasion, no drama or rowdy behavior is tolerated, keeping it a safe and friendly environment. There are two uni-sex restrooms, that are cleaned several times a day for your comfort.

Located at 16540 W Avra Valley Rd, Marana 85653, The Water Hole is at the southwestern limits of Marana, in the vicinity of La Vista Ranchettes, Avra Ranchettes and White Fence Farms. The most direct route from Marana is south on I-10, then west on Avra Valley Road until you see the sign.
